LUNGS
LUNGS is an experimental game and interactive art piece about my relationship to my body both as a trans person and as a person deeply affected by COVID-19, which led to my diagnosis of acute hypoxic respiratory failure in 2021. LUNGS, made with the free and open-source game engine Twine, utilizes the aesthetics of redaction and blackout poetry to reflect on my relationship to the medical-industrial complex: what it is like to be documented within the medical archive, and how these documents can never truly hold the fullness of trans life and experience.
LUNGS has been supported by the ACLS Digital Justice Seed Grant for the Trans Games Zine Project, led by Ari Gass and Teddy Pozo. Other members involved include Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, D. Squinkifer, Jess Marcotte, PS Berge, Madison Schmalzer, Geneva Heyward, Ryan Rose Acae, Hibby Thach, Amanda Phillips, Zac Millman, and others.
LUNGS has also been exhibited at the Queer Play Workshop at the University of British Columbia, a project supported by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council Connections Grant, led by Harper B. Keenan, Harris Kornstein, and Ervin Malakaj.
